Brango Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 15, 2026
Who we are and what this policy covers
Brango protects the personal information entrusted to us and uses it only for lawful, permissible purposes. Brango provides background screening technology, fulfillment and support services to background screening companies that partner with Brango (our "Affiliates"), which provide background checks to employers and other organizations ("Clients").
This policy explains how Brango collects, uses, shares and protects personal information about:
- Website visitors who browse our sites or contact us;
- Affiliates and Clients, and the people who use our systems on their behalf;
- Applicants and consumers whose background checks are processed through our platform.
Background check information is governed by the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and applicable state laws. Where this policy and those laws differ, the law controls. Each Affiliate also has its own privacy policy covering its relationship with its Clients and applicants.
Information we collect and how we use it
| Who | What we collect | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Website visitors | Name, email, phone, any message you submit, and company when a form asks for it; basic device and usage data (browser type, pages visited, IP address) | To answer inquiries, provide information about our services, and keep our website secure and working |
| Affiliates and Clients | Business contact details, user account information, billing details, order history | To provide and bill for our services, verify that Clients are legitimate businesses with a permissible purpose, support users, and keep accounts secure |
| Applicants and consumers | Information provided by the applicant or the requesting organization, such as name, address history, date of birth, Social Security number, driver's license number, employment and education history; the applicant's electronic authorization; and results from public records and data providers, such as criminal, driving, identity and verification records | Only to prepare background check reports the applicant authorized, for a purpose permitted by the FCRA, and to handle disputes and legal obligations |
We obtain background check information from courthouses and other public record sources, government agencies, licensed data providers, court researchers, and past employers and schools.
We do not use applicant information for marketing, and we do not use it for any purpose other than the background check it was collected for and the legal obligations that come with it.
How we share information
Brango does not sell personal information, and does not share it for advertising.
We share personal information only:
- With the Affiliate and Client that requested a background check, and only when they have a permissible purpose under the FCRA and the applicant's authorization where required;
- With data providers, court researchers and verification sources, only as needed to complete a search, and under contracts that limit their use of the information;
- With service providers that host, secure and support our systems, such as cloud hosting, email delivery and payment processing, under contracts that require them to protect the information;
- When required by law, such as a subpoena, court order or regulatory request, or to protect the rights, safety and security of applicants, Clients, Brango or others;
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or sale, where the receiving company must protect the information under terms at least as protective as this policy.
If you are a background check applicant: your rights
Under the FCRA you have the right to know what is in your background check file and to dispute anything incomplete or inaccurate. Your rights include:
- Authorization. An employer must tell you in writing and get your written permission before ordering a background check for employment.
- A copy of your file. You may request a copy of the information in your file. Reasonable proof of identity is required so we release your information only to you.
- Notice before adverse action. If an employer may take action against you based on your report, it must first give you a copy of the report and a summary of your rights.
- Disputes. If you believe information is incomplete or inaccurate, you may dispute it. We reinvestigate free of charge, usually within 30 days, correct or delete information that is inaccurate, incomplete or cannot be verified, and tell you the result.
- Limits on outdated information. In most cases, negative information older than 7 years, and bankruptcies older than 10 years, may not be reported, with exceptions set by law.
You can read the full Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Some states give you additional rights.
To request your file or start a dispute, contact the company that provided your background check, or contact Brango directly using the details at the end of this policy. Please include your full name, current address, and the name of the employer or organization that requested your check.
How we protect information
Brango maintains a written information security program with administrative, technical and physical safeguards. These include encryption of sensitive data in transit and at rest, role-based access limited to people who need it, multi-factor authentication on critical systems, audit logging, background checks and annual security and FCRA training for staff, and hosting in secured U.S. data centers. No system is perfectly secure, but we review and improve our safeguards regularly. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide our services, meet legal, regulatory and contract requirements, and handle disputes and audits. When it is no longer needed, we securely delete or destroy it.
Cookies and website analytics
Our websites use cookies and similar technologies to keep them working, remember your settings, keep sign-ins secure, and understand how the sites are used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work without them. We do not use cookies to sell your information or to show you targeted advertising.
State privacy rights
Depending on where you live, state law may give you rights to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising. Brango does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Background check information covered by the FCRA is handled under the FCRA rights described above. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We will verify your identity before acting on a request and will not discriminate against you for making one.
Children
Our services are for businesses and adult job applicants. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through our websites.
